優異英文寫作 – Blood Donation Day!

BLOOD DONATION DAY!

by Kyle Estabillo (6B)

Blood Donation Day was held on 10th March 2017 in the school hall at Rosaryhill School. Students who were sixteen and above could donate blood. I, fortunately enough, was one of them.

First, I had to fill in a form before I sat down in the waiting area. During my wait, I had mixed feelings before donating my blood. Scared, because I saw my friends wince whenever the needle was being inserted into their arm and I absolutely have zero tolerance for pain, so I hate getting hurt; Nervous, because of all the waiting, I had to watch other students get their blood taken, while I had to wait for my turn; But most of all, what I felt about myself was that I was Brave. I felt quite proud that I was giving my blood to someone who really needed it.

Before students could donate their blood, they had to take a haemoglobin count blood test in order to see if they were fit to donate blood. The nurse had to prick their finger in order to get a sample of their blood. (which was quite painful for me! ) Unfortunately, some students were not able to pass the test as their haemoglobin count did not exceed the requirements, and therefore they were not able to donate blood. Fortunately, I passed the test. After that, they took my blood pressure. At this point I was already extremely petrified and nervous! The nurse was sitting beside me the whole time and as soon as she took the needle out, I looked away.

Then suddenly, without warning, pain rushed through my arm followed by a warm sensation I can’t really describe. I almost cried, but luckily, I managed not to. After a few minutes, it was finally over! They put a bandage on my arm, and asked me to sit and rest for a while.

A total of 350 milliliters of blood was taken from me. After the blood taking, I felt very happy because I remembered the reason why I decided to give my blood in the first place. One of them was, of course, for the experience. But the most important reason is that I wanted to save a life. No matter how little blood I gave, I’m sure that it would change the course of someone’s life significantly. The thought of it warms my heart, I would definitely donate again someday.

So, donate your blood now!

優異英文寫作 – Rebirth of the Flower Show

Rebirth of the Flower Show

by Chelsea Queriones (6A)

Last  year, the school organized an unusual , but great event for students to participate – The Flower Show. This event was held in late March 2017 in the School Hall. Kindergarten, primary and secondary students from other schools were welcomed to join it as well.

Before the Flower Arrangement Competition, the school invited a guest speaker to introduce what flower arrangement is. By definition a flower arrangement is an organization of design and color towards creating an ambience using flowers, foliage and other floral accessories. The guest speaker taught us several techniques on Flower Arrangement, for example, anchoring (technique used to secure a stem insertion into a foam by using wood picks) and collaring (technique used when making a collar or a frill surrounding the materials).

During the competition, there were surprisingly a lot of classes from K1 to F5. Students were very creative and well prepared for the event. Firstly, they chose and bought some flowers of their own choice and then they were given themes for their arrangement, namely – The Dancing Blossoms and Dream Come True. After that, they started to design their product. The final product of everyone’s work was not bad, especially for first timers. I thought everyone did very well. Besides that, I think the overall event was well organized and fresh. This event has given students a chance a try and experience a new form of art which isn’t well-known in our school. Therefore, this activity is definitely a new experience for all of us!

We also interviewed Mr. Leung, the overall in-charge of the Flower Show,to know more about the event. First of all, we asked him what the purpose of the event was. He mentioned it was all for students’ leisure. Since this event was introduced to the school more than 20 years ago and the last one took place 10 years ago, he thought it would be a great time to bring it back so as to enhance students’ interests and knowledge towards arts. When we asked him whether or not the overall performance of the event was satisfactory, Mr Leung said he was very satisfied with the performance of the participants. Although he didn’t have any expectations of the students, he was surprised how actively the students participated. As mentioned, the Flower Arrangement event was introduced in our school 20 years ago, so it is quite new especially to our current students. Therefore, Mr Leung plans to hold this event again in the next few years.

優異英文寫作 – Healthy Mind, Body and Soul

Healthy Mind, Body and Soul

by Danielle Subang   ( 6A )

A healthy body, mind and soul? Why is it so important? Well, the greatest benefit you can get from having this is that, on your own, you will manage to be truly happy.

But that sounds a little absurd doesn’t it? A little impossible even, especially with all the schoolwork needed to be done, expectations needed to be met, and not to mention the things that you really want to do and goals you want to achieve. But trust me, it’s not that hard at all, you just need some determination and patience because it all takes time.

Your body, mind and soul are all connected with each other and doing one thing can help improve all three. Keeping your body healthy might be the most tiring physically but compared to the two, it is the easiest. I’m sure that you all already know to keep eating healthy, sleep more and play sports. But are you really practising it? And I know that we are all teenagers trying to save money without jobs, so you skip meals. But I really do suggest investing just a little money to your lunch every day because it will do more than just keep you full, it can improve your mood and keep you going through the day. Exercising can also help you relax and keep your mood up for the whole day.

Having a healthy mind and soul can be very hard for us teenagers especially with all the insecurities and internal battles, but I just want to tell you to relax because everything will turn out just fine. Feed your mind, keep reading and learning because how can it hurt? It will also keep your brain from degenerating. Listen to music and keep breathing, keep yourself relaxed and calm. Never listen to those who try to bring you down, just look around you and be grateful for everything that you have, instead of focusing on those that aren’t there. The key point to a good mind and soul is to take really good care of yourself and treat yourself like a princess or a prince because you deserve it.

You will need patience for this because it takes some getting used to. I know I did. I was having a really hard time until I started to take good care of myself and I became happier than I have ever been.
